Is a Komodo Liveaboard Trip Safe For Families and Kids?

Tatawa Besar is the site divers name when asked which Komodo dive was the most relaxing. It is a gentle slope carpeted in orange soft coral, dived as an easy drift, and it sits close enough to Batu Bolong that the two often run on the same day as a deliberate contrast.

Why it suits everyone

Where the northern pinnacles demand hooks and technique, Tatawa asks almost nothing. Divers drop in and travel slowly along the slope with a mild current. It is a common choice after a demanding morning dive, and a good site for less experienced guests on a mixed-ability group.

What you see

Vast fields of orange soft coral, turtles feeding on the slope, schooling fusiliers, nudibranchs for anyone looking closely, and the occasional reef shark passing along the deeper edge.

Experience level

Open Water divers are generally comfortable here.

Conditions

Water temperature in central and north Komodo runs 26–30°C, generally warm and calm. A 3mm long wetsuit is the most versatile choice; bring a 5mm or a neoprene hoodie if you feel the cold. The Komodo season is June to September, departing from Labuan Bajo. Open Water divers are limited to a maximum depth of 18m by law and insurance.
